Hybrid Project Management
I can lead your projects by applying what makes sense! I have a broad knowledge of various different project management methodologies. This is key to make sure we can apply what makes sense. The best methodology is what is most suitable for the project, team and client. Often that means applying a Hybrid approach combining traditional plan-based and Agile practices.
89% of the project professionals surveyed in 2019 said that their organization implemented Hybrid project management practices (PMI's Pulse of the Profession 2019)
What is hybrid project management? Traditional + Agile = Hybrid
A Hybrid
approach is a combination of Agile and non-Agile approaches to project
management in a single project. In most cases this
means
- Traditional practices for planning - installing the overall project plan and the high level planning
- Agile practices for execution - detailed planning
When using a Hybrid Approach?
Choosing an Approach that is fit for purpose
The reason to select a Hybrid project management approach is obvious. It is key to create a methodology for each project that is most fit for the purpose of reaching the project goals & objectives. Project management methodologies and frameworks will be useful only if you take a practical approach to implement them. And this might very well be combining traditional and Agile practices in a single project.
Since a Hybrid approach aims to combine the strengths of a traditional and Agile approach, a Hybrid method is suitable for the majority of projects.
- The method is particularly suitable for complex projects with ever-changing requirements. Short communication lines, working with sprints and multidisciplinary teams, gives a project manager the ability to solve problems quickly.
- In addition, a Hybrid project approach is interesting for organisations that do not (yet) want to embrace the Agile way of working. This may be because of the limited degree of control over budget, planning and delivery. In that case, a Hybrid approach offers the possibility to deliver products cyclically, in sprints, while the project overview, such as planning, budget and status, remains clear.
Choosing between Agile, traditional or hybrid is NOT a binairy choice
Often agile and waterfall are positioned as two opposed and competing approaches which is not correct. Choosing between Agile and Traditional is not a binairy choice and is not an 'either-or' choice. There are many ways to install a hybrid approach. It's all about applying what makes sense!

Why increasing agility? More successful projects!
The PMI study "The Drivers of Agility" found that companies operating with a high degree of agility bring significantly more projects to a successful conclusion than those that don't.
